Is my old White Card still valid?

Yes, if you successfully completed a previous course (such as CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry) and received your white card, that card is still valid. Under the current legislation, white cards do not expire but it is recommended that you refresh your knowledge by completing a new course if you have been absent from the construction industry for more than 2 years.

Can I complete the verbal assessment over the phone?

Unfortunately, not, in accordance with the unit of competency, CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, assessment of performance evidence must be done by direct observation of the learner by an assessor, either by an assessor observing the learner physically and/or by an assessor observing the learner via audio and visual media in real time.

What equipment do I need access to?

You must complete this assessment via live video link in accordance with the unit of competency; therefore, must have access to a video enabled device (such as a smartphone, tablet or webcam). The program that we use to complete the assessment is called Gruveo, please click here for more detailed instructions about using the Gruveo software.

The CPCCWHS1001 unit of competency also explicitly states that the person completing the course must demonstrate correctly fitting to themselves the following PPE; Eye protection, hearing protection, hard hat, high visibility retro reflective vest.

During course registration, you will be given the option to purchase a PPE Pack that contains these items for an additional fee of $42.90 (excluding shipping). You may supply your own PPE; however, it must be actual PPE e.g. no caps, regular spectacles, non-reflective jackets etc. You must have access to all of the PPE items prior to attempting your video assessment.

You will also need a reliable internet connection and a device with working webcam in order to complete the assessment online. You will be required to be connected to an assessor for approximately 20 minutes and must be able to access your screen during the assessment as you will need to answer questions based on images and scenarios provided by the assessor.

You will also be required to complete a student declaration that must be signed, this can be done electronically or printed, signed manually and scanned.

I live outside Australia. Can I do this course before I arrive?

Yes, you are able to complete all elements of the course and assessments from another country, provided you have a reliable internet connection.

However, we only post PPE packs to Australian addresses, we DO NOT offer PPE purchases for overseas students, therefore you will be required to provide your own hard hat, high visibility clothing, ear protect and eye protection.

How do I access the video verbal assessment?

When you are able to access the video verbal module, you will need to click the ‘Join Queue’ button, which will display a ‘waiting time’ page and then you will be automatically directed to the Gruveo website in a new browser window.

  1. Your user ID should be pre-filled in the “Room Name” section, if this does not occur, please manually enter your User ID into the space provided.
  2. Click on ‘Video Call”
  3. Wait for the Assessor to join the room and begin your assessment.

When you connect to the assessor, they will be able to see and hear you; you should be able to hear the assessor and see images on your screen, you will not see the assessor. 

Will I be connected to the video verbal assessment straight away?

When you click on the module in your profile, you will enter a queue and be given an approximate waiting time to be connected to an assessor. The waiting time is based on:

  • The time it takes to complete an average assessment (approximately 20 minutes), and
  • Your place in the queue (e.g. how many people are in front of you).

As different people will complete the assessment at different paces, this time may vary and may be longer or shorter than initially stated.

Our assessors are busy and therefore cannot wait for extended periods of time if you are not present on screen when they connect with you. It is important that you stay with your computer or device at all times while you are in the queue. If you leave your computer/device while you are waiting and you are connected to the assessor during that time, the assessor will attempt to gain your attention verbally and you will be given 60 seconds to return before the assessor will terminate the connection and move onto the next person in the queue.

Can I come in and do the whole course at the National Head Office?

Unfortunately, no. We are an online provider only.  We do not supply in-house training, and white cards cannot be collected from our office.

Can I come in and do the video verbal assessment at your offices?

While it is not advised, we may be able to accommodate you at our Spring Hill offices in Brisbane; you will need to call and arrange a time in advance as the assessment can take up to 30 minutes and assessor may not be available at all times. You would be required to bring your photo ID and your PPE with you as we do not supply PPE at our offices.

Does the video program work on all devices?

Yes, in most cases you will be able to complete assessment in a browser window without the need to download or install anything.

In some cases, Apple users may be required to download the App (where they are using earlier versions of iOS). You will be prompted to download the app if required.

  1. Visit the App Store and download the Gruveo Application before attempting to complete the assessment.
  2. Use the search function to find and ‘Gruveo’. You will need at least 27.4mb of free storage to download this application.

When you click the ‘Join Queue’ button below, you will be given a user ID, this is your Gruveo Room Name. when you are next in the queue to complete your assessment, you must:

  1. Open your Gruveo app and enter your Room Name
  2. Click on ‘Video Call”
  3. Wait for the Assessor to join the room and begin your assessment.

What are the LLN requirements for this course?

The language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to successfully complete all elements of this course (as outlined in the unit of competency) are:

  • Numeracy skills to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
  • Oral communication skills to ask questions to clarify instructions and listen to instructions to identify key safety information and tell another person about a construction problem or hazard.
  • Reading skills to follow simple pictorial safety instructions and follow simple safety instructions that are written in English.
  • Problem-solving skills to select risk control measures.

You will be required to answer detailed questions via video link on a series of construction related topics such as hazard and risk controls, safety documentation and the roles of safety personnel; therefore, you must have a sound understanding of the English language and be able to communicate in English without assistance from another person (including a translator).

Is there a limit on the number of times I can attempt the assessments?

You can attempt the knowledge assessments multiple times; however, you must answer all questions correctly in a single attempt in order to pass.

The video verbal assessment element has a time limit of 30 minutes, if you are unable to successfully complete the assessment in this timeframe, the assessment will be stopped and counted as an attempt. You will be allowed 2 attempts to complete the assessment, if you are unable to successfully complete the verbal assessment within 2 attempts, you will be required to re-sit the course content. You may also be required to provide evidence of having improved your proficiency with the English language. Evidence is deemed to be in the form of either a copy of your results, Statement of Attainment, Certificate of Completion, a record of attendance or a statement letter from a qualified ESL tutor (must have business header). The evidence must be either an original copy or a certified as a ‘true and correct copy of the original’ by a Justice of the Peace.

Can I return my PPE when I have finished the course?

At this time, we are unable to accept PPE returns in exchange for a refund.

What if my PPE is faulty or damaged when I receive it?

If the PPE is damaged or faulty on delivery (evidence of damage or fault may be required), please contact us on 1300 362 226 to arrange for a replacement.

When will my PPE arrive?

If you have opted for standard delivery, your PPE Pack should arrive within 3-5 business days (depending on your location), there is no tracking on standard shipping.

If you have opted for express delivery, your PPE Pack should arrive within 1-3 business days (depending on your location) and you will be able to track the progress of your delivery via the Australia Post website.

If Australia Post are unable to deliver your pack (as it contains a hard hat which will not fit through a standard letterbox), they may take it to your nearest Post Office for collection.

How long does it take to do the course?

The course covers the required nominal (face-to-face) six hours of content. However, due to the efficiencies of online learning, we find most people take approximately 2-4 hours to complete the course and approximately 20-30 minutes to complete the video verbal assessment. The course content and knowledge assessments are available online 24 hours a day, and you can start and stop the course as many times as you like. Your completed work will be saved and ready for you when you start again. The assessment centre (for completion of your video verbal assessment) is available between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday AEST.

Does this replace the Blue, Red and Green Cards?

In 2009 the unit of competency “CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry” was released. This unit replaced state based construction industry general safety induction training.

In 2016, CPCCOHS1001A was replaced with CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, this is the current unit that must be completed to obtain a new white card.

If you have a Blue, Red or Green card we recommend you check with your state regulatory body, such as Worksafe QLD or SafeWork NSW, to see if your card is still valid.

How much is the course?

The course cost is [price] (GST Free). This cost does not include a PPE Pack which are available for an additional $42.90 (Inc. GST); if you would like express post for your PPE Pack, this can also be purchased for an additional $10.00 (Inc. GST). For an extra $12.00 (Inc. GST) you can upgrade to Priority Service. 

Once I finish the course how long does it take to receive my White Card?

Once your curse is finalised, your card will be posted out via surface mail within 3-5 working days. (also see below). 

What is the Optional Priority Service Upgrade?

For only $12 (Incl GST) you get:

  • Priority Card Processing – We Process Your Card in 1-2 business days (Usually only 1 business day)
  • Express Post Envelope – Next Day Delivery in Express Post Envelope (Australian Residents Only and subject to Australia Post Conditions)

Please note, priority service relates to the processing and delivery or your card only and does not include express delivery of your PPE Pack. Express PPE shipping is available as an extra option at the time of purchase for an additional fee of $10.

Do my documents need to be certified?

If you have any of the following approved forms of photo ID, you do not need to have them certified as the originals will be cited during your video verbal assessment by our trained assessors; approved photo ID includes:

  • A current and valid driver’s licence issued by an Australian state or territory; or
  • An 18 plus card; or
  • A current and valid passport; or
  • A student/school identity card

If you do not have access to one of these acceptable forms of photo ID, you must submit 3 of the following options to confirm your identity, at least one (1) of which shall bear the current address of the participant, as contributing to proof of ID. As these are not forms of photo ID, each copy will need to be certified by an appropriate person (click here for further information):

  • Medicare card
  • Birth certificate
  • Credit card statement
  • Land title record
  • Rates notice
  • Utility account or
  • Land line phone account

Who is “authorised” to “certify” my Identification?

If you do not have photo ID, your ID documents must be certified.

In Queensland your identification (ID) must be certified as a ‘true and correct copy’ by either a Justice of the Peace (JP), Commissioner for Declarations or a Legal Practitioner. For all other States and Territories of Australia please click here for a list of authorised persons.

When do I need to upload my ID?

You must upload your ID and have it finalised by our support team before you can attempt your video verbal assessment. The reason for this is that our assessors will use your ID to confirm your identity during the assessment.

Which White Cards do you issue?

We issue WA White Cards to anyone who lives in WA or is moving there for work and QLD white cards for students from all other States and Territories of Australia. If you are completing the white card for a licence or permit please check with your relevant state regulatory body to ensure that the White Card that will be issued to you will be accepted.

Is the card I will receive valid in my State?

All White Cards are Nationally recognised and once you have a card from any State or Territory in Australia then it should be recognised in all other States and Territories of Australia. If you are completing the white card for a licence or permit please check with your relevant state regulatory body to ensure that the White Card that will be issued to you will be accepted.

It’s URGENT! I need it by tomorrow!

Once you have successfully completed the course, including your assessments and feedback, you will have access to your Statement of Attainment immediately. You can print this out at home, library or your employer’s office. In Victoria, QLD and the NT an employer must accept the statement of attainment/certificate as evidence that you have completed the course. However everywhere else, it is up to your employer’s discretion if this is sufficient evidence that you have completed the course, pending the arrival of your card. Your employer is welcome to phone us directly to verify that you have completed the course. For those outside of QLD, NT and VIC once the card has been processed we can supply the White Card number. If you would like a scanned copy please ring us to organise this as we cannot do this once the card has been posted (07 3118 6125).

I have lost my White Card

You will need to contact the company that you did your Card with. If it was with us then we can issue you a replacement card. However, you will have to fill out a Stat Dec first. Please phone us to confirm the course was with us and we will email the Lost Card Stat Dec.

How can I pay?

You can pay online via credit or visa debit card. Or over the phone. (American Express is not accepted)

You can also pay by money order or electronic transfer. However you will have to wait for the money to be cleared into our account before will be able to access the course which could take 2-5 days. Please phone us to organise these methods of payment. (We also accept no responsibility for money orders lost in the post)

Are you a Registered Training Organisation?

Yes, we are a registered Training organisation with the QLD government and have a license agreement with the WA government and so can deliver the course in every State and Territory of Australia. Visit the TGA website

I have paid; however I can’t get into the course it keeps asking me to pay?

Have you received a copy of your receipt by email?

Please have a look half way down where it says “status”. Does it say approved? Or does it say “Declined”. If it says declined then we have not received any payment and you will need to go through the payment screens again. If you have any further problems please ring us.

Does this course have GST?


The element will not load?

You might have pop up blockers activated on your computer. You will need to disable the pop up blockers.

Can I use an internet Cafe?

Internet Cafe’s are not recommended, as it will be slow and you may lose connection, and may have to repeat parts of the course.

Are there any other computer requirements?

Speakers are recommended, although headphones would do. But one of them is compulsory as the Presentation has Audio. You will also need a webcam to complete the video verbal assessment.

What type of internet connection is required?

Broadband/Cable Internet is required. 3G Wireless, including the ones having USB Wireless Modems, are NOT recommended. Dial-Up is not suitable, sorry.

What type of web browser and computer can I use?

The supported browsers for this course include Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Your browser should be up to date with the latest version for optimal performance. This course is compatible with desktop computers (screen resolution of at least 1024×768), iPad, iPhone, iPad mini, android tablets and android phones.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Beginning in 2015 if you are undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Your USI gives you access to your online USI account which will contain all your nationally recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards.

If you don’t already have your USI number this can be created easily through the profile section of your account. For more information regarding the USI please visit www.usi.gov.au.
