Earlier this year we learned that Victorian work sites are the safest in the country, recording the least number of injuries and fatalities but even one injury or death is one too many and work safety authorities have introduced a new Healthy Workplace Kit to assist workers and employers with OHS issues.
The Healthy Workplace Kit is a guide to beginning and enhancing health and wellbeing within the workplace.
The kit contains all the information, tools and resources you’ll need to create an effective health and wellbeing program for your business. Whether you are just starting out, or are looking to expand an existing program, this kit provides step-by-step instructions on safety for companies.
In addition to the kit it is important that employers ensure all their workers are in possession of the appropriate construction safety training.
Every worker should complete the online White Card Training Course to certify that they are qualified to work on a site, it is also the most convenient form of safety training.
Each worker on site is ultimately responsible for his own safety but they also have a responsibility to ensure that he/she does not put the lives of his/her co-workers at risk. Therefore no matter the task being undertaken, every construction worker should ensure that he is working safely and according to the safety he/she has received.
Hazards may vary from site to site so workers who are well trained on the various hazards during general induction training are better equipped than those who have received site specific training alone.
